Karl Richard Woofter

K. Richard Woofter, age 95, of Mecca Twp., died on Friday, September 14, 2012 at his residence. He was born on October 7, 1916 in Plymouth, OH., a son of the late Karl Woofter and the late Ethel Mann Woofter. Richard moved from Plymouth to Mecca Twp. in 1932 and graduated from Mecca High School in 1934. He was a member of the West Mecca United Methodist Church and had worked as a welder at Stanwade Metal Products in Hartford for 55 years before retiring at the age of 83. He enjoyed playing softball, but mostly, he enjoyed working. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Alice Hubbard Woofter, whom he married on June 6, 1941; son, Curtis (Karen) Woofter of Mecca Twp., daughter, Rita (John) Hottell of Aurora, OH and two sisters, Alberta Hammond of Champion Twp., and Karlene (Marlin) Moschell of Cherry Valley, OH. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamara Woofter, four brothers, Lynn, Stanley, Robert and Max Woofter and by three sisters, Marjorie Martin, Leona Gale and Virginia Muir. A service will be held at the West Mecca United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to West Mecca United Methodist Church, 1215 Greenville Rd., Cortland, OH 44410, or to Senior Independent Hospice, 6715 Tippecanoe Rd., Canfield, OH 44406.
