NORTH JACKSON--- Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 AM in St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Canfield, for Katherine Williams, 87 of North Jackson, who passed away peacefully Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after 3 yrs. of declining health . Katherine was born the third of five children on August 29, 1915 in Oil City, Pa. a daughter of Vinton and Lenore (Shoup) Neely and moved to the area at the age of 3. Mrs. Williams had been a state champion archer in the late 1930’s and 1940’s in the Ohio and Pennsylvania area. She and her late husband John L. helped found the Mahoning Archery Club on their property in North Jackson. Katherine also was a Girl Scout Leader in the Lake to River Council and taught archery at camp Millwood for many years. She was a life member of the church and was active in the Episcopal Church Women and St. Margaret’s Altar Guild. Katherine was also a member of the North Jackson Garden Club; other hobbies included reading, crocheting, and traveling. Her husband John L. whom she married June 21, 1946 passed away June 16, 1972. She is survived by her four children Bruce Williams of North Jackson, John V. of Grafton, Katherine (Pete H.M.) Gifford of Austintown, and Lenore (Richard) Goist of Kent, a brother Vinton E. Jr. of Leetonia, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers William and Harold Neely and a sister Lenore Smart . Friends and family may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown chapel. Family request that memorial tributes be given to the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Memorial fund or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
