Kathryn A Young

Mineral Ridge- Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday February 7, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge, for Kathryn A. Young, 96, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday evening at Briarfield Manor. Kathryn was born July 12, 1918 in Oil City, PA, the daughter of the late Paul and Vera (Opalka) Halko. Mrs. Young spent most of her life as a homemaker, taking care of her family. During WWII she was employed at Lordstown Depot, munitions armory and later was a cafeteria worker for Weathersfield Twp. Schools. She was a member of Ida chapter of Easter Star She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge for 67 years. She was very involved in the life of the church. She was ordained a Deacon in 1978 and continued to visit the shut ins with the pastor, was a teacher in the church school and vacation bible school, served as the president of the Presbyterian women, chaired the Trash and Treasure Booth for many years at the annual bazaars, was past president of the Leah circle, a chapel aid at Park vista, sang in the church choir, helped with the Senior Citizens lunches and Rescue Mission dinners, maintained the Cradle Roll for many years and participated in Bible and book studies. In 2005, she was honored as Presbyterian Women of the Year. She carried on a faithful and quiet ministry to many church members and friends near and far. She leaves behind her two children Barbara (Richard) Bickerstaff of Westerville and Billie (the late Daryl) Moore of Mineral Ridge, with whom she made her home, grandchildren Bryan Bickerstaff, Jody (Matthew) Randle, Tracey (Robert) Palomo and Nicole (Paul) McMullen, great-grandchildren Brandon, Kendra, Logan, Sydney, Tyler, Natalie, Hailey and Kylee, brother George (Millie) Halko of Florida and her beloved grand-dogs Eddie, Miley, Jazzy, Willa, and the late Mattie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years William V. Young, who passed on Sept. 29, 1997, an infant son and siblings Mary, Joe and John. Family and Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of services at 11:00am, officiated by Pastor Jamie Milton, at First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge.
