Kathryn Betty Shaffer

Kathryn Elizabeth "Betty" Shaffer, age 81 of Howland Township, died Friday morning, October 22, 2010, at her home. She was born April 12, 1929 in DuBois, Pa the daughter of the late George W. and Della Hagerick Brickley. Betty was a 1947 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and attended Eastern Nazarene College. She was a member of the Niles First Church of the Nazarene. She had worked as a packer in the shipping department of GE-Mahoning Glass plant in Niles. Her husband, Carl J. Shaffer, whom she married in 1955, preceded in death in 1997. Two sisters and three brothers have preceded her in death. Betty is survived by one daughter, Juanita K. (Jonatas) Brown and one son, Mark A. Shaffer both of Howland Twp.; three granddaughters; three great grandsons and one sister, Sarah "Sally" Kennedy of New Holland, Pa. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Niles First Church of the Nazarene, where the family will greet friends following the service. Arrangements were made by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland.
