Kenneth A. Hoffman

Kenneth A. Hoffman, Jr., 83, of Howland, passed away February 5, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Kenneth was born August 13, 1930 in Warren, son of Kenneth, Sr. and Margaret (Halkett) Hoffman, who both preceded him in death. Ken was a 1948 graduate of Champion High School, and was a key player on the High School Championship Team. He was a proud veteran of the US Coast Guard, where he worked in the Port Security Unit. Ken worked at Packard Electric from 1948 until his retirement forty years later in 1988. He was a Senior Manager of product engineering, involved in both development and support of Packard Electric products both domestically and international, including Mexico, Spain, Italy, Germany and Ireland. He was inducted into the Packard Electric Hall of Fame in 1995. Many would know Ken as the long-time owner of Northwood Golf Club. Ken was the co-founder and co-owner of Northwood Golf Club in Champion, Ohio, which opened in 1965 with the late John Calderone. Ken built and managed the course for over 40 years. Ken also enjoyed community involvement by being a member of the Champion Optimist Club and a key supporter of Champion High School. When Ken was not working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He liked to golf and fish and will be remembered for his witty personality and humor. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Edith (Khoenle); two sons, Dr. K. Douglas (Brittain) Hoffman of Ft. Collins, CO and Ted M. (Michelle) Hoffman of Haymarket, VA; two daughters, Debra H. (Willis) Gray of Pepperell, MA and Cathy A. Hoffman of Bristol, VA; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren and one sister, Carol (Adrian) Hovanic of Champion. A private funeral service will be held at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, with interment to follow in the All Souls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Lung Association, 6100 Rockside Woods Blvd, suite 260, Independence, OH 44131.
