Kenneth L Anderson

December 18, 1928 — May 19, 2011

Kenneth L. Anderson, 82, of Howland Twp. went home to be with the Lord 3:09 PM Thursday May 19, 2011 following a short illness. He was born Dec. 18, 1928 in Warren the son of Jack and Florine (Moore) Anderson. From an early age, Kenneth loved playing the saxophone. Although he never had a lesson, by his teen years was traveling with fair bands. He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1948 and joined the US Army with hopes of becoming a paratrooper, but the Army chose to use his musical abilities instead assigning him to the US Army band. Throughout his musical experiences he played with such well-known jazz greats as Stan Getz and Woody Herman. Eventually, Kenneth's love for music came second to his interest in engineering. As he continued to play in area bands, he went to electrical engineering school to pursue this interest. He worked at Republic Steel Corp. and spent thirty years at Packard Electric retiring December 1990 as foreman of the dip-form shop. After retirement, Kenneth and his wife Bettie moved to Florida, then to Georgia before returning to Ohio in December 2010. They enjoyed traveling and he was an avid fisherman. In his later years he enjoyed working with his hands-woodcarving and tinkering in his workshop. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Bettie (Mackey)whom he married October 3, 1985, three daughters Kim (Troy)Robertson of Michigan, Jenny (Mark)Butler of Bazetta, Leslie Anderson of New Jersey, and two step-sons Larry (Kay) Schmitt of Texas and Jerry (Anita) Schmitt of Streetsboro. He also leaves nine grandchildren; Mike, Tim, and Joe Robertson of Michigan, Hannah and Nathaniel Butler of Bazetta, Nicholas and Adam Schmitt of Streetsboro, David and Sarah Schmitt of Texas and a sister Shirley (Jerry) Wilkinson of Toledo. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday May 23, 2011 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 5-7 PM Sunday. Pastor Joe L. Doran will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests material contributions be made to The Gideons International PO Box 140800 Nashville, TN 37214.
