Lauvonne Virginia Gurd, 87 of Liberty formerly of Vienna passed away February 1, 2011 at Liberty Health Center. She was born in Keyser, West Virginia on September 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Dewey and Clara (Heishman) Staggs. Moving to the area in the 1940s, Lauvonne was a homemaker. She was a former member of the 1st Free Methodist Church of Youngstown and later attended Miracle Valley Church in Hermitage. She married her husband, George Donald Gurd on January 29, 1940. Together they shared 62 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2002. Also preceding Mrs. Gurd in death is a daughter Diane and a brother Herbert Staggs. She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Goist of Austintown and Ellen (Richard) Yungbluth of Liberty; Grandchildren Diana Riley, Michelle (John) Albrecht, Charles Thompson II, Sarah (Ray) Knepper, Shari (Steve) Kiraly and Carla Brienik, 12 great grandchildren; and siblings Maxine Wildman of Harrisonburg, VA, and Arnold Staggs of Keyser, West Virginia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11am at the Lane Funeral Homes, Inc., Madasz Chapel, Brookfield with Pastor Samuel DeJoy officiating. Calling hours will be Friday evening from 5-8pm. Burial will be at Vienna Township Cemetery.
