BOARDMAN-Private Chapel Services will be held in Lake Park Cemetery for Laverne “Verne” H. Dieter of Boardman, who passed away Friday afternoon in his home. Verne was 88. Verne was born on March 26, 1918 in Youngstown, Ohio and was the only son of the late Carl and Ida (Habeger) Dieter and lived in the area all of his life. Verne was the owner and operator of Dieter Refrigeration for over 40 years retiring in 1980. Verne was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Philippines during World War II. In serving his country, Verne received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal World War II. Verne was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a member of the Mahoning County Duck & Conservation Club, National Wildlife Federation, and the Youngstown Maennerchor Club. Verne enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Verne married the former Beatrice Bramer on March 9, 1941 and she preceded him in death on May 23, 2004. Verne is survived by a son Richard (Mary Ann) of Canfield, and a daughter Shirley Spillane of St. Louis; four sisters Delores Price, Genevieve Yosua, Carol James all of Boardman, and Martha Cummings of Atlanta; and five grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, Verne was preceded in death by a sister Ethel Dieter. Family will receive friends on Monday, April 10, 2006 from 5 until 8 PM at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Verne’s name to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley 962 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Youngstown, Ohio 44510.
