Lawrence E. Snell

Lawrence Edward Snell, "Larry", age 74 of Canfield, died on Good Friday, April 3, 2015 at 12:15 PM at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Boardman. He was born on January 16, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late A. Glenn and Mildred Blake Snell. Larry was a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, and also was a graduate from the Conservatory in Cincinnati obtaining a Bachelors Degree and then attended Vandercook University in Chicago and obtained his Masters Degree in Music. He lead the Fitch Band to Superior Rating at State Band Competitions for 30+ years. Prior to working at Fitch he also worked at Jackson Milton Schools as band director for 3 years. Mr. Snell taught private music lessons, and played the baritone in the Packard Band. His memberships included the Music Union, the Music Fraternity in Youngstown, the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA), the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA); and he was a huge Cincinnati Reds fan and a Cleveland Indians fan. Survivors include his wife the former Sandra Dunbar, whom he married on December 28, 1983; his daughters, Julie (Greg) Grasso, Janet Cazen, and Mandy Leggett; four grandchildren, Miranda, Ben, Allyson, and Jessica. Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Austintown Community Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Fitch Band Fund, PO Box 4460, Austintown, Ohio 44515, in Larry's memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Lane Family Funeral Homes-Austintown Chapel.
