Leona F Shorts

Leona F. Shorts, of Cortland, OH passed away early Thursday morning March 10, 2011 at Concord Care Center in Fowler. She was 92 Years old. Mrs. Shorts was born on April 18, 1918 in Grove City, PA, a daughter of the late Almond and Elsie Gills. She was a graduate of the Grove City, PA High School. She retired from Fowler-Vienna (Mathews School District in 1979 as Secretary to Principal Superintendent for 21 years. She was also active in the PTA and the Music Boosters in Mathews. Leona had been a member of the Vienna Methodist Church. She loved to read knit, play golf, and enjoyed music and spending time with her beloved family and friends. Leona's husband Merle R. Shorts passed away March 13, 1986. They were married on December 20, 1943 and had 43 wonderful years together. She leaves behind her two sons Robert "Gary" Shorts and his wife Marlene of Hartford, OH and Jeffrey Shorts and his wife Sandra of Cortland, OH. She will also be deeply missed by her granddaughter Kristine Hunkus and her husband Pete II of Hartford; a grandson Scott Shorts; four great-grandchildren Pete III and his wife Olivia, Greg, Drew, and Case; and seven nieces and nephews. Leona's twin sister Leaudra Hughes, passed away on August 22, 2004. Funeral services will be held on Monday March 14, 2011 at 11:00AM at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel 164 North High Street Cortland, Ohio 44410. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna, OH.
