Leona Virginia Tryon, 85, of Warren passed away Sunday afternoon, Jan. 3, 2010 at Hillside Medical Center after an extended illness. Born Dec. 8, 1924 in North Bloomfield she was the daughter of the late Elgin Lawerence and Nina Mae (Downing) Whetson. Leona was a former waitress at the Brown Derby Restaurant in Warren and retired after 27 years. She was a member of the restaurant local No. 712, was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed gambling. She is survived a daughter Barbara J. Heflin of Warren, two sons, James D. Tryon of Lilburn, GA and Carl E. Tryon of Woodstock, GA, a daughter-in-law Karen Tryon Herlinger of Cortland, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Gary L. Tryon, five brothers, Nelson, Max, Elton, Leon and Elgin Whetson Jr., four sisters, Erma Karasiewicz, Alice Coffee, Elma Crawford, and Arlene Whetson, and by her best friend Larry Six. Chaplain Carol Yablonovsky will conduct a funeral service Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at 12PM at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel where family and friends may visit from 10AM until 12PM. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn cemetery.
