Leonard M. Gay

Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Niles Chapel for Leonard M. Gay, 89, who died Wednesday afternoon at the Hospice House in Poland. He was born June 5, 1921 in Weston, WVA, a son of George and Lucinda (Freeman) Gay. He was a 1939 graduate of Lewis County High School in Weston. For the past 20 years he and his wife have resided in McDonald. He worked as a plastics molder for Packard Electric for 23 years before retiring in 1988. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WW II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Girard. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, and he was an avid Cleveland Indians, West Virginia Mountaineers, and NY Giants fan. His first wife, the former Sarah Jane Brown, whom he married November 16, 1946 preceded him in death May 20, 1981. He is survived by his second wife, the former Mary E. Fore, whom he married December 1, 1990. He also leaves behind a daughter, Anita Jane (Joseph) Celli of Niles; two grandchildren; Kimberly (Christopher) Marino of Girard and Joseph (Janet) Celli of McDonald; and five great grandchildren; Joshua, Joey, Megan, Ryan, and Nick. Besides his first wife he was preceded in death by three brothers; Charles, Samuel, and Adrian Gay; and four sisters; Iva Smith, Georgia Scarf, Addie Johnson, and Mary Duncan. Friends may call from 2-4pm Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hospice House in Poland.
