Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Berlin Center United Methodist Church for Leonard S. Mace of Berlin Center who passed away Saturday morning at his home. Leonard was born December 19, 1929 in Akron, the son of Claude and Clara (Bauch) Mace. The owner of L. Mace and Sons Excavating for over forty years, Leonard was a member of the Berlin Center United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, the Berlin-Ellsworth Ruritan for over thirty years where he was the Past President, and was formerly a Berlin Township Trustee. He was also a member of the Salem Eagles F.O.E. #316, was a private pilot, and was the Emcee of the Western Reserve Alumni Banquet. Leonard was also an original member of the Berlin Township Fire Department serving as a volunteer fireman. Besides his wife, the former Carol Jean Crizer, whom he married June 15, 1950, Leonard leaves five children: Vicky Mace of Diamond, Barry Mace of Berlin Center, Sherri Kirkpatrick of Berlin Center, David, and Jerry Mace also of Berlin Center. He also leaves two sisters: Josie Thornsley of North Benton, and Grace Comstock of Stow. Leonard leaves twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Leonard C. “Chuck” Mace, two sisters: Doris Nicodemus and Ellen Mace as well as brothers Eugene, Donald and Claude Mace Friends and family may call from 4-8 PM on Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel as well as from 10 to 11 am on Tuesday, one hour prior to the services at church.
