Lewis A. Carithers

Services will be noon Monday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Lewis A Carithers, 82, of Youngstown formerly of Vienna who passed away Thursday at Park Vista Care Center. Lewis was born August 16, 1923 in Lawrenceville, Illinois the son of Oris and Bessie (Ayers) Carithers. Lewis was a graduate of Armaugh High School class of 1942 and a 1943 graduate of Carnegie Tech. He retired in 1985 from the Maintenance department of Packard Electric after 35 years of service. Lewis was a member of the American Legion Post #301 in Austintown and the Cortland Masonic Lodge # 529. He was also an Army veteran of WWII, who landed at Utah Beach on D-Day and Participated in the Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns. His wife the former Betty Jean Smith whom he married April 8, 1945 passed away November 5, 2000. He leaves a niece and caregiver Kim Crozier and her husband Tom and son Tyler of Mineral Ridge, a sister Betty Jo Eskridge and two brothers; Richard and Paul Carithers all in Virginia, as well as several other nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 pm Sunday and again from 11 am to noon Monday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will take place Sunday at 5:45 pm. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge in Lewis’s name.
