Lillian Jean Young

October 16, 1927 — April 12, 2008

Lillian I. "Jean" Young, age 80, of Bazetta Township, died at 2:15 pm Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was born October 16, 1927 in Indiana County, Pa. the daughter of the late George S. and Bernice F. (Patterson) Whitaker. She had been a Cortland area resident most of her life. Jean worked as a cosmetologist for many years at Beauty Incorporated in Cortland. She was a life member of VFW Post 1090 Auxiliary and a member of the Cortland Women of the Moose. Jean loved animals, especially her dog, Tiny Tike and enjoyed knitting, sewing, baking and cooking. Her husband, Frank C. Young Jr., whom she married June 16, 1946, died May 8, 1995. Jean is survived by one daughter, Priscilla Ann (Larlun) Williams of Bazetta; one son, John Kenneth Young of Howland Twp.; five granddaughters, DeeAnn Young, Kelley J. Cradle, Brandy L. Young, Dawn L. Young and Tammy L. Williams; 5 great grandsons, Leelun, Johnny, Larlun, Isaac and Mason and 1 great granddaughter, Sydnee. Two brothers, Emmett Whitaker of Richmond, VA and Alan L. Whitaker of Bath, NY also survive. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland, where the family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the 1:00 pm funeral service on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Burial will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Park in Champion.
