A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 29h, at 11:00 AM at the Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church for Lois J. DeCola of Hillside Dr. in Canfield who passed away at her home on Wednesday morning. Lois was born March 26, 1929 in State College, PA the daughter of Jefferson and Pauline (Neff) Slick. A 1947 graduate of Struthers High School, Lois attended Youngstown College and worked at Strouss’ Department Store both downtown and at the Southern Park Mall for many years. Mrs. DeCola retired as a dispatcher for the Canfield Police Department in 1992. She was a former member of Brownlee Woods Presbyterian and Canfield Presbyterian Church and taught both Sunday school and Bible School. She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 177 in Canfield, and served as district chair many years of the auxiliary. She was a former Cub Scout and Brownie leader, past member of the Western Reserve Boosters Club, and Canfield Football Mothers Club. She was a past member of the Nineteenth Ohio Artillery re-enactment where she had been very active. She was a past member of the Sons of Union Veteran’s Auxiliary Phillip Treim Camp in Salem. She was also formerly active in the P.T.A. Lois leaves two children: Becky (Ken) Black of Poland, and Bill (Susie) DeCola of Canfield. She also leaves eight grandchildren: Liz, John, Ken Jr., and P.F.C. Tony Black U.S.M.C., Mike, Billy, Chuck and Nicky DeCola, as well as a great-granddaughter Chelsey Black. Mrs. DeCola was preceded in death by her husband Alphonse DeCola, whom she married July 25, 1949 and passed away on December 12, 1995. A sister Eleanor Nagy also preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Valley at 5190 Market St. Boardman, OH 44512 or the Canfield War Vet Museum at 23 E. Main St. Canfield, OH 44406.
