Louis E. Spadin

Louis "Gene" E. Spadin of Masury, OH, passed away on Friday February 12, 2010 at 11:36 PM at Sharon Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He was 86 years old. Mr. Spadin was born in Grove City, PA on December 22 , 1923, a son of Louis E. and Leah (Kraph) Spadin Sr.. He attended Grove City Schools and then went on to serve his country with the United States Marine Corps. in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Upon his return from the war Gene went on to marry the former Dorothy E. Zele in June of 1947. Gene was a carpenter for more than 30 years and he retired from J.G. Hayden and Son in Hermitage, PA. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sharon, PA, the Hermitage American Legion, and the Carpenters Union. Gene enjoyed hunting and going fishing and was known especially for catching numerous Walleye. He was an avid vegetable gardener for many years and would often share his crops with his friends and family. He is survived by wife Dorothy; his three sons Richard Spadin and his wife Fran of Waterloo, IA, Robert Spadin and his wife Kathy of Masury, OH, and Mark Spadin and his wife Christine of Middleburg Heights, OH; his three brothers Perry Spadin of Virginia, Paul Spadin and James Spadin both of Maryland; his two sisters Emma Fix of Virginia, and Mary Mikulas of Nevada; also surviving are his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Thomas Spadin in 2004, by his two brothers John and Albert, and his sister Eleanor Daugherty. Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Tuesday at Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, in Brookfield, OH. Calling hours will be Monday evening from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Hermitage, PA.
