Louis E. Toth

Funeral Services will be held 4 PM Sunday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Louis Erwin Toth, 94, of Poland who passed away Wednesday morning in Assumption Village Care Center. Louis was born July 13, 1916 in Youngstown the son of Louis and Mary (Vereb) Toth. He was an Insurance Salesman for Princor for several years, In addition to that he was a high school teacher with the Youngstown City Schools for approximately 15, years. After his retirement, Louis worked with his son helping to manage Struthers Sharpening. Louis served in the United State Army during WWII and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He served during the Battle of the Bulge, and the Invasion of Normandy and several other battles and campaigns. He received several decorations and citations for his service. He was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, member of the Life Underwriters, a life member of the State Teachers Retirement Association, and the St. Vincent DePaul Association, and a volunteer for St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Louis’ wife, the former Mary Petransky, whom he married June 6, 1946, passed away October 25, 1985. His wife also an Army veteran of WWII, was honorable discharged as a Lieutenant. He leaves three children; Christine Toth of Portland OR, Louis M. Toth of Struthers, and Sr. Diane Toth O.S.U. of Canfield, two sisters Irene Gaydos of Tallmadge, and Margaret Simon of Minnesota, and four grandchildren; Aniko and Marika White, Molly and Mark Toth. Besides his wife and parents, Louis is preceded in death by two sisters; Elizabeth Molnar, and Mary Barry, two brothers; John Toth and Joseph Toth who died in WWII and two step-sisters; Mary Bennett and Ann Wash. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ursuline Sisters, or St. Vincent DePaul Society or the Veterans’ Outreach, 524 Youngstown – Poland Rd, Struthers, Ohio 44471 in Louis’ name. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Assumption for all the care, love, and support given Louis and the family during his stay with them.
