Maria Cessna

Maria Cessna, age 86, formerly of Cortland died Sunday, October 15 at her daughter's home in Howland. She was born January 11, 1920 in Bruck, Germany, the daughter of Ludwig and Maria Rixinger Schadenfroh. Maria was raised in Germany and moved to Ohio in 1947 to marry Ralph Cessna, whom she met in Germany during World War II. Maria and Ralph were married on December 26, 1947. Ralph preceeded her in death on February 16, 1996. The couple enjoyed many years of family life and traveling and camping together. They spent over twenty years wintering in Florida. Maria is survived by her daughter Christina (Michael) Schmader of Howland; granddaughter Michelle Schmader of Howland; grandson Michael (Melissa) Schmader of Cortland and great granddaughter Emma Schmader. Also surviving are two sisters living in Germany. Maria was preceeded in death by one sister and one brother. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.
