A memorial service will be held 2 PM Sunday April 22, 2012 at First Federated Church in North Jackson for Mariel P. Hamilton, 94, of North Jackson who passed away Friday evening, April 6, 2012 in Austinwoods Nursing Home. Marie was born July 23, 1917 in Salem Ohio, the daughter of Fred O. and Elva (Whiteleather) Porter. She was a graduate of South High School and graduated from Youngstown College with a degree in Elementary Education. She retired in 1978 from the Jackson-Milton School System as a teacher after 11 years of service. Marie was a member of First Federated Church, its Women's Fellowship Benevolence Board. She was also a member of the Kings Daughters/ Christian Endeavor, the "Keenagers", the Church Women United, the Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Society at YSU, and the Mahoning County Farm Bureau. Her husband, Raymond Hamilton, whom she married November 2, 1940, passed away April 26, 1995. Marie leaves three children, Dennis R. Hamilton of North Jackson, James F. Hamilton Sr. of Niles, and Cheryl Whaley of North Jackson, four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jarry) Fisher, Timothy (Christina Turner) Whaley, James F. Hamilton Jr., and Robert (Lisa) Hamilton, three great grandchildren, Bryce L. and Elissa K. Fisher and Bella N. Hamilton. Marie also leaves one brother Fred (Dorothy) Porter of Columbus as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by one grandson, Adam Whaley, and two sisters, Thelma Criss and Virginia (Quentin) Freed. Friends may call from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at the Church. Arrangements were made by the Lane Family Funeral Homes Austintown Chapel.
