Marilyn K. Stephens, age 71 of Champion, Ohio, died on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11:30 AM at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born on April 25, 1942 in Warren, the daughter of the late Stephen A. and Helen McFall Groff. Marilyn was a homemaker, she loved to cook, bake and garden. Her greatest joy was being with and doing for her family especially her seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Holly, Molly, Jacob, Amanda, Hannah, and Olivia. She was a 1960 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Warren and was a devoted member of St. William Catholic Church in Champion. Other than her grandchildren, Marilyn is survived by her husband, Charles E. Stephens, whom she married on July 18, 1964; her children, Gary (Terrie) Stephens of Champion, Diana (James) Shaffer of Hartville, and Laurie (Kenneth) Yuhas of Cortland; and her siblings, Robert (Ruth) Groff of Warren, Daniel (Annette) Groff of Howland, and Judith (Arnold) Roman of Cortland. Other than her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by one grandson, Adam Robert Shaffer and one sister, Linda Groff. Private funeral services were held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland. Calling hours were also private. Burial was in the All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Twp., Ohio. Father Michael Balash officiated the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the MVI Hospice, in Marilyn's memory.
