Marjorie Louise Thornton

Marjorie Louise (Freedline) Thornton, age 68, of Bristolville died of a sudden illness Sunday, September 16, 2007, at 7:08 pm at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. She was born August 25, 1939 in Red Bank Township, PA the daughter of the late Cloyd D. and Gertrude A. (Crawford) Freedline. Marjorie attended West Farmington schools and was a member of Bristolville United Methodist Church and Bristolville Church of the Brethren. She catered weddings for many years and was well known for her wedding cakes. She had worked at the Cortland Moose Lodge in Mecca as a cook and had previously worked for eight years at Packard Electric Corp. Marjorie enjoyed bowling and bowled on three leagues in Cortland and one in Champion. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Cortland Lodge. Marjorie enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping and taking care of others and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also loved her dogs, Freckles and Midnight. She is survived by two daughters, Crystal D. (George) Goberish and Robin L. (John) Fike both of Bristolville; two sons, Russell Alan (Mary) Thornton Sr. of Summerville, SC and Randy D. Thornton of Bristolville; one granddaughter and six grandsons, Steven and Kenneth Goberish, Russell Alan (Kristy) Thornton Jr., Andrew and David Thornton, John Fike Jr. and Kenra Fike; one great grandson, Nathan Goberish; one sister, Edna Yount of Kittanning, PA; eight foster siblings, Chuck (Marianna) Anthony of Warren, Bob (Terri) Anthony and Cheryl (Ted) Popovich both of Champion, Carren (Ralph) Ailstock of Howland, Linda (James) Stewart of Southington, Pam Anthony of Warren, Ed (Kathy) Anthony of Leavittsburg and Sherry Hennen of Warren. Marjorie was preceded in death May 16, 2007 by her husband, Kenneth Russell Thornton Jr., whom she married October 26, 1957; one daughter, Kimberly Sue Thornton in 1969; three brothers, Harvey, Robert and William Freedline; two sisters, Betty Smith and Ruth Manfredi and her Foster parents, Charles and Betty Anthony. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday. Funeral services will be at the Bristolville United Methodist Church at 11:00 am Thursday, September 20, 2007 where friends may call for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Shirley Stoops-Frantz and Pastor Roger Norton will be officiating. Burial will be at Sager Memorial Cemetery in Bristolville. Material contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at the Bristolville United Methodist Church or to Forum Health at Home Hospice.
