Marlene Kay Harter

Marlene Kay Harter, "Marti", age 63 of Cortland, Ohio, died suddenly and unexpectedly, at 8:46 PM at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren on Monday, December 9, 2013. She was born on April 24, 1950 in Gassaway, WV, the daughter of Robert and Mildred Rapp Chapman. Marlene was a 1968 graduate of Wadsworth High School and a 1972 graduate of Bowling Green State University obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Education. Mrs. Harter was a teacher in the Bristol School District for 37 years, retiring in 2009 where she taught math. Following retirement, she taught at Lakeview and Bristol as a substitute teacher. She was an avid reader, she traveled and loved sports of all kind. Marti was also a member of the Howland Community Church. Survivors include her husband, James D. Harter, whom she married on July 29, 1972; her mother of Wadsworth; her daughter, Kari M. (Adam) Hineman of Lyndhurst; one sister, Karen (Dave) Weber of Tipp City; and her mother-in-law, Wilma Grant Harter of Canton. Those that have preceded Marti in death were her father, her daughter, Tami R. Harter in 2011, and her father-in-law, Dale Harter. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland at 11 AM, where Rev. Brian Byrne will celebrate Marlene's life. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home from 5-7 PM, Thursday, December 12, 2013 and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.
