Marshall "Hoppy" F. Simmons, 79 Cortland - Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday at Bristolville Church of the Brethren for Marshall "Hoppy" F. Simmons who passed away Wednesday morning at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Hoppy was born October 26, 1932 in Kempton, MD a son of the late Walter Simmons and Daisey (Blizzard) Simmons Cogley. A United States Army Veteran, he retired in 1995 after 45 years of service at Thomas Steel. He was a member of the Bristolville Church of the Brethren, where he was know as the "Candy Man", he was also an usher at church. He enjoyed attending the Thomas Steel Retirees Club and enjoyed fishing. His wife the former Bertha Hammell, whom he married October 4, 1952, passed away July 19, 1998. He will be sadly missed by three daughters: Madaline Simmons of Cortland, Brenda Simmons of Howland, Marilyn Simmons of Cortland; one son Mark Simmons of Cortland; one sister: Nancy Gordon of Kitzmiller, MD; one brother; five grandchildren: and three great grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, Hoppy is preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to the church in Hoppy's name.
