Mary Elizabeth Mahaffey

Mary Elizabeth (Magargle) Mahaffey, age 81, of Cortland, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 26, 2006 following a year long battle with Ovarian Cancer. She was born on January 31, 1925 in Moreland Twp, Lycoming Co., PA., the eldest child of the late Albert Magargle and the late Dolly Weeks Magargle. She graduated in 1944 from Millville High School and married Charles 'Lew' Mahaffey on September 24, 1944 and moved to the Bazetta-Cortland area in 1947. She was a secretary for John Rush State Farm Insurance in Warren for 25 years, retiring in 1990. Marry was a faithful and active member of Bazetta Christian Church for over 50 years. Her faith, family and long list of loving friends were the most important part of her life. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Sandra (John) Kovach of Cortland; son , Richard (Jan) Mahaffey of Burghill, OH; her beloved grandchildren, Brian Kovach of Cortland, Eric (Lindsay) Kovach of Howland, Kellie (Rick) Rossi of Kent and a great grandchildren, Erika Kovach, Ryan Kovach, Tyler Rossi and Gabriel Rossi. She will also be sadly missed by her sister, Violet Wright of Williamsport, PA,; and her three brothers, A. Stanley (Marion) Magargle of Newton Falls, A. Wayne (Lois) Magargle of Fremont, OH., and Larry (Patty) Magargle of Pennsdale, PA; and sister-in-laws, Gladys Wallet of Leesburg, FL., and Betty Magargle of Muncy, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years on October 10, 1986 and two brothers, Howard Magargle and Clarence Magargle. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, August 29, 2006. Funeral service will be at Bazetta Christian Church at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 30, 2006, where the family will again receive friends one hour prior to the service.
