Helen Mary 'Jerry' Zerovich, age 85, of Mecca Township died at 6:45 pm Sunday at Concord Health Care Center of Cortland in Fowler Township. She was born November 30, 1920 in Brookfield the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Glad) Zerovich. Helen graduated from Mecca High School in 1938 and from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during WWII attaining the rank of Captain and in the Army reserves after her wartime duty. Helen worked as a registered nurse for 43 years, working in Casper, Wyoming; Akron General Hospital and retiring from Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was active with the Mecca Community Church Clothing Ministry and enjoyed gardening and reading. She is survived by one sister, Ann Mild of Sharon, Pa.;one sister-in-law, Harriet Zerovich of Mecca Twp.; three nieces, Kathryn (Walter) Maddie of Johnston Twp.; Amy (Glen) Buzzelli of Grove City, Pa and Deborah (Roger) Pihlaja of Sanford, MI; three nephews Karl and Mark Zerovich of Mecca Twp. and Kenneth Mild of Sharon, PA. Helen was preceded in death by two brothers, Nicholas Zerovich and Joseph Zerovich Jr. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 6, 2006. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Furl officiating. Burial will be at East Mecca Twp. Cemetery Material contributions may be made to the Mecca Community Church Food Bank or to the Mecca Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept.
