Mary J. Holko, 93 of Warren, passed away Tuesday morning, August 5, 2014, at Community Skilled Nursing Centre in Warren. She was born September 18, 1920 in Arnold City, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late George and Veronica Kosiba Duda. The family moved to Warren in 1925. Mary was a January 1939 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. In May of the same year, she went to work at Trumbull Lamp Div. of GE. She married her husband, Peter on July 19, 1941. When he was drafted into the Army in 1941 and stationed at Lawry Field in Denver, Mary went to work at the base Port Exchange until December 1942. Peter was then stationed overseas in January 1943 and Mary returned to Warren and worked at Packard Electric until Peter was discharged in July of that year. She was a stay at home Mom and homemaker when her sons were young. Mary returned to work in 1963, where she worked for 19 years in the food service department at Warren City Schools, retiring as manager in July of 1982. Mary was a dedicated wife and mother. She loved having her family with her, especially during the holidays when she took great delight in preparing a lot of food. She also enjoyed knitting, reading and traveling as well as being a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. Mary and Peter were members of St. Pius X Church in Warren (Blessed John Paul II Parish), where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the 50 Plus Club. Mary is survived by two sons, William (Diane) Holko of Wadsworth and Mark (Cynthia) Holko of Pickerington; three grandson, Justin (Kandice) Holko, Jonathon (Jacalyn) Holko and Jeffrey (Maria) Holko; one granddaughter, Allison; five great grandsons, Travis, Ian, Austin, Joseph and Jackson; a great granddaughter, Kiersten and two sisters, Jane Brasko of Newton Falls and Blanche Kowalczyk of Warren. Besides her parents, her husband Peter Holko and two brothers, Joseph and Mitchell Duda have all preceded her in death. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2014 at Blessed John Paul II Parish (St. Joseph Church site), 420 North Street N.W. in Warren, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blessed John Paul II Parish.
