Mary Jane Pfund, 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, at her home. Jane was born on March 28, 1926, in Cambria County PA, a daughter of William and Ruth Sproat. She was a graduate of Salem High School. She attended the University of Mount Union, and received her diploma in nursing from Salem City Hospital School of Nursing. Jane proudly worked for many years at Salem Community Hospital and retired as a cardiac nurse. She had a vibrant passion for the field of nursing and caring for others. Jane was a Nurse Cadet in the Nurse Corps as well. She was an active member of Canfield United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years and participated in numerous activities with her church family. Jane had a love for the game of golf and even scored a hole-in-one at the age of 81 at Lake Front Golf Course in Columbiana. She had a passion for music, volunteering, and traveling. Her greatest love though, was the time she spent making memories with her family and friends. Her first husband, Murray Stone, second husband, Arthur Pfund, two brothers, William Sproat and Lee Sproat, and a stepson, Thomas Pfund, precede her in death. She is survived by four children; Margaret Goff of Greenford, Lee (Gina) Stone of Liberty Township, William (Giselle) Stone of Marietta, GA, and Susan (Tom) Haney of Canfield; a sister, Billie Sproat of Sebring; stepchildren, William (Sue) Pfund of Eaton, CO, Nancy Pfund of Palmyra, VA, and Kenneth Pfund of Columbus. Jane leaves to cherish her memory, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 am on Monday, September 30th at Canfield United Methodist Church. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406 or Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
