Mary Jean Wilson

Memorial services will be held 7pm Monday at the Girard First United Methodist Church for Mary “Jean” Wilson, 92, who died Friday afternoon at North Side Medical center in Youngstown. She was born March 4, 1919 in East Palestine, a daughter of Curtis R. and Martha E. (Perry) Seger, and she resided in this area all of her life. She was a 1938 graduate of East Palestine High School and she spent her adult life as a homemaker raising and caring for her family. She was currently a member of Girard United Methodist Church. She had formerly attended Brownlee Woods Presbyterian and Gibson Heights Presbyterian churches. She was active with the Mahoning county elections board where she worked polling stations for several years. She was also a former member of Secret Pals at Heritage Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed making buckeyes and was fondly known as “Buckeye Grandma”, and she liked to sew. Jean was a kind and loving lady and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She married Glen H. Wilson March 23, 1940 and he preceded her in death September 9, 2002. She is survived by two children; Robert (Tom Jones) Wilson of Austintown and Diana Short of Youngstown; two grandchildren; Kimberly (Daniel) Deming of Sandusky and Adam Wilson of Mineral Ridge; and a great granddaughter, Emily Deming. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a son, James Wilson; a daughter, Marjorie Wilson; three brothers; James, Perry, and Richard Seger; and a sister, Dorothy Dunlap. Friends may call from 5-7pm Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Jean’s memory to the Girard United Methodist Church.
