Mary M. Opritza

A memorial mass will be held Thursday at 11 AM in St. Michael’s Church for Mary Opritza, 90 of Canfield, who passed away Saturday morning at the Woodlands at Hampton Woods Signor Living Residence. Mary was born March 18, 1917 in Fremont, OH, the daughter of Nick and Anna (Isarie) Achim. She was a home maker and a founding member of the church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Mary was a volunteer teacher’s aid in the Bradenton School District for several years while living in Florida. She was also a poll worker for the Mahoning County Board of Elections and a member of the Homemakers Guild of Mahoning County. She very frequently entered the baking competition at the Canfield Fair and won several ribbons, her most recent at the age of 87. Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening and was an avid reader. She loved to travel with her husband Nick in their R.V. and traveled thru Europe in an R.V. Mary will be sadly missed by husband Nick D. Opritza whom she married July 5, 1945, two daughters, Marsha Opritza of Newton N.C., Susan (Scott) Silvashy of Canfield and one son, Ronald Opritza of Canfield. She also leaves one sister Amelia V. Graham of Warren, four grandchildren, Nicole Opritza of St. Petersburg FL, Danielle Opritza of Circleville OH, Ryan and Ron Silvashy of Ft. Myers FL, and three great grandchildren, Kyra, D.J., and Katelyn. Mary is preceded in death by 3 brothers and one sister. Mary was a loving and caring person who touched the lives of many people who will never forget her. In lieu of flowers the family requests material tributes take the form of donations to the St. Michael’s Church in Mary’s name. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel.
