CANFIELD- Mary Nelle Berry Jones (1933-2015) Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, at Cornersburg Baptist Church at 11AM, with calling hours Friday, January 16 from 5PM to 8PM at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Ausintown Chapel, for Mary Nelle Berry Jones, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 81. Born in Starkville, Mississippi, on February 16, 1933, a daughter of Lillian Davis Berry and George Leavell Berry, Mary Nelle grew up on the Henry Lee Davis farm RFD Columbus, Mississippi. As a young person, Jesus Christ forgave her sins and became her Lord and Savior, giving her grace and purpose in the years to come. She graduated valedictorian from New Hope High School in 1951, and continued her education at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, graduating in 1955 when she married Melvin R. Jones, of Clara, Mississippi. Their joyful marriage was blessed with three children: Lillian B. Jones Keenan (Pete), Mel Jones (Kathy Gest), and Jennifer Davis Jones Mosher (Allan). She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Melvin R. Jones, and her brother, George Leavell Berry, Jr., as well as her parents. After moving to Youngstown in 1968 to begin services of what became Cornersburg Baptist Church, the family lived in Austintown. Mary Nelle taught for many years at the Youngstown Skills Center, and later at East High School, retiring in 1994. She thoroughly enjoyed studying and teaching the Bible, books, music, and college basketball. Besides her children and their spouses, she leaves behind much-loved grandchildren: Maura and Ewan Jones of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Julia Mosher of Canfield, Catherine Mosher of Indianapolis, and Ruth, Justin, and Ellie Panuccio of Harrison City, Pennsylvania. Countless friends, colleagues, and relatives will remember her with gratitude and happy memories. Mary Nelle/Mama/Nana/Mrs. Jones joined her beloved husband and her faithful God in heaven on January 13, 2015. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's honor to the American Bible Society, Women's Missionary Union, or Global Maritime Ministries.
