Mary Sekela Valente

Mary Sekela Valente, 93, formerly of Oak Knoll Ave. NE, died Saturyday, July 1, 2006 at 2:50PM at Gillette’s Nursing Home following a short illness. She was born Feb.20, 1913 in Elkhorn, WV the daughter of Michael and Eva (Barna) Hollis. A lifetime Warren area resident, she worked as a waitress at the Saratoga Restaurant in Warren for 30 years retiring in 1971. An active member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church of Warren, she belonged to the church society where she formerly was an officer and she volunteered on the kitchen crew for many years. Mary enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas. Her first husband, Andrew Sekela Sr. whom she married in 1929 preceded her in death in 1969 and her second husband, Lindsay “Tiny” Valente whom she married in 1971 preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by 4 sons; Andrew Sekela and wife Lethea of Toledo, OH, John Sekela and wife Kathleen, Ted Sekela and wife Janice, and David Sekela and wife Linda all of Warren. She also is survived by 2 sisters Julia Byndas and husband Frank of Brooklyn, OH, Crystal Phillips and husband John of Bluefield, WV, 2 brothers Nicholas Hollis and wife Wilma of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Washington Hollis and wife Mary of Bluefield, WV, 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings, Michael, Peter, Andrew, Anne, and Pearl. The Rev. Kenneth M. Bachofsky will conduct services Thursday, July 6 at 11:00AM at the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Friends will be received Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Friends will also be received Thursday morning from 10 to 11AM at the church prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park.
