Services will be 11 AM Friday at the Lane Funeral Home Niles Chapel for Matilda Szalay, 82, of Niles who passed away Wednesday December 24, 2008 in Rest Haven Care Center in Holland, MI. Matilda was born January 29, 1926 in Niles the daughter of Albert Sr. and Elizabeth (Kovach) Toth. She was a long time area resident and a homemaker. Matilda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Niles for several years. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and her cats. Her husband, Joseph Szalay whom she married October 2, 1954, passed away September 24, 1983. Matilda leaves two sons; Joseph Jr. (Kathy) Szalay of Niles and Daniel (Wendy) Szalay of Holland MI, one brother; Albert Toth Jr. of Cortland, and two grandchildren; Aaron and Cori Szalay of Holland MI. Besides her parents and husband, Matilda is preceded in death by two brothers; Joseph and Alex Toth, and two sisters; Julia Barkley and Margaret Serbin. Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 AM Friday at the funeral home.
