Maxine Elizabeth (Winters) Sudranski, age 92, of Cortland, died Friday morning, March 13, 2009, at Shepherd of The Valley in Howland. She was born July 26, 1916 in Warren the daughter of the late George Nelson and Caroline Louise (Miller) Winters. Maxine was a 1934 graduate of Cortland High School, where she excelled in track, basketball and softball. She was Trumbull county high jump champion in 1934. Maxine was also a member of Monk's Oil traveling basketball team. She served in the U.S. Navy Waves during World War II and worked for a few years at Packard Electric Corporation as a secretary in the maintenance department. Maxine was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Warren. Her husband, L. L. "Les" Sudranski, whom she married March 20, 1944, preceded her in death May 18, 2006. Three sisters, Kathryn Winters, Dorothy Magos and Mary Dilworth and three brothers, John "Jack", William and George "Junior" Winters all have preceded in death. She is survived by three daughters, Lynne (Barry) Bleier of Melbourne, Fla., Kathryn (Rodney) Green of Albuquerque, NM and Dianne L. (Jon) Runnestrand of Cortland; seven grandchildren; one great grandson and one great granddaughter. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. The family will receive friends at the family home at 2345 Howland Wilson Road N.E. in Bazetta Twp. from Noon to 2:00 pm Sunday, March 15, 2009. Funeral services will follow at the home at 2:00 pm Sunday, with Rev. Thomas Baumgardner officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Cortland.
