Private funeral services will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania for Melvin Secrist, 72, of Austintown who passed away early Thursday morning in the Cleveland Clinic. Melvin was born October 20, 1933 in Hannastown, PA the son of George and Alice (Parfitt) Secrist. Melvin was a construction worker most recently with George Chepke Construction. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Korean War, a member of Pricetown United Methodist Church, and a former member of the North Jackson Kiwanis Club. Melvin also enjoyed fishing and golfing. He leaves his wife the former Janet Antell, whom he married July 22, 1961, two daughters; Sharon (Duncan) Badertscher of Cleveland, and Melanie (Alberto) Vasquez of Detroit, and four grandchildren; Andrew and Elizabeth Badertscher of Cleveland, Janet and Vincent Vasquez of Detroit. Melvin also leaves two sisters Ruth Wright of St. Petersburg FL, and Eileen Wadsworth of Cuba MO, and five brothers; James of Greensburg PA, Eugene of Ligonier PA, Raymond of Cleveland, John of St. Petersburg FL, and Richard of Derry PA. Four brothers; George , Robert, Kenneth, and Arthur, preceded Melvin in death. Family and friends may call from 1 to 4 PM Sunday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.
