Michael George Gilliland
“Soaring Eagle”

Michael George Gilliland of Manor Drive, Brookfield, formerly of Hubbard, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown, surrounded by his family. He was 44.

Mr. Gilliland was born on August 1, 1961, in Sharon, PA, to John W. “Hank” Gilliland and Julia “Judy” Gilliland, the fifth of their six children.

A 1979 graduate of Brookfield High School, Michael was employed by Roemer Industries, Masury, for 25 years.

Michael was a high energy, free-spirited man who was quick to offer his time helping any of his friends or family with their remodeling projects or fixing their autos. An avid fan of rock-n-roll music, he loved wearing hats and an accompanying smile. Michael spent many hours in his garage fixing anything with a motor. He enjoyed camping and trips to the Allegheny Mountains. He was a compassionate man who loved his family, his friends, and his country. Raised as a Catholic, attending Holy Trinity Church, Farrell, he prided himself in his honesty, sincerity, and giving to others.

Michael leaves behind his two sons, Zackary and Franklin Gilliland who reside in Masury with their mother Wendy Gilliland.

He is also survived by his mother Julia “Judy” Venable of Hermitage; a brother John “Hank” (Rita) Gilliland, of Hartford; four sisters: Judith Puskar, of Brookfield, Jacquelyn (Mark) Forte, of Warren, Margaret “Peg” Hampton, of Columbus, and Thelma (Joe) Giampapa, of Columbus. He has four nieces and six nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who love him. He will be missed dearly by all and especially by his sister, Jacquelyn.

He was preceded in death by his father, John “Hank” Gilliland, who died in 1970.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:30 PM Friday at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield, with Rev. Howard King, Pastor of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, West Middlesex, PA. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 PM until the time of service. Burial will be private.
