Michael J Borawiec Sr.

Michael J. “Mike” Borawiec Sr., 68, of Cortland passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, June 17, 2006 of a heart attack. Mike was born February 12, 1938 in Warren the son of the late John and Stephanie Holda Borawiec and was a life long resident of Trumbull County. Mike began working at an early age and was not one to relax. As a perfectionist, he was never known to take shortcuts. He instilled in his family the importance of loyalty, hard work and perseverance. Mike was a motivator and took great pride in teaching his skills to his children and grandchildren. He was love and respect by all who knew him. Mike retired from Copperweld Steel where he was employed for 42 years. After his retirement in 2001, Mike continued to operate his own business as an auto mechanic and fabricator. Mike was an established racecar driver who had many extraordinary seasons on the dirt track circuit before retiring in 1983. Over the last few years, Mike designed and fabricated a tremendously successful racecar that he called “Trick Chassis.” Just recently he began taking orders for his car from customers throughout the Midwest and the East coast. When not at the track or in his garage, Mike enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching a good movie and going on charted fishing trips to Lake Erie. He married Mary Lu Whetstone August 21, 1954. Together they shared nearly 52 years of marriage and six children. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lu Whetstone Borawiec of Cortland, three sons and two daughters, Mike (Deborah) Borawiec of Braceville, Sherri (Tim) Eakin, Brenda(Bill) Scott, Sean (Tamara) Borawiec, and Brian (Jennifer) Borawiec all of Cortland. Twelve grandchildren; Stephanie, Lisa, Tim Jr., Brandi, Britni, Michele, Gabrielle, Brian Jr., Justin, Mason, Brant and Gavin were all blessed to have such a wonderful grandpa and will dearly miss him. Mike was preceded in death by a daughter Michelle Borawiec. Cremation has taken place. The Holy Reverend Richard Whetstone will conduct a memorial Mass Monday, June 26, 2006 at 1PM at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel.
