Mildred Marlen Martin

Mildred Marlen Davis Martin, age 95, of Cortland, died on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at her residence. She was born on January 26, 1917, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Harry Davis and the late Inabel Thomas Davis. Marlen graduated from Cortland High School and worked most of her life as a homemaker. She was a Life Member of First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown and was also a member of the Mary Chesney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Cortland Literary Club. Her husband, Frank Martin, whom she married on December 15, 1942, preceded her in death on November 4, 1975. She is survived by two children, Marlen Sue Martin with whom she lives with in Cortland and Frank (Diana) Martin of Cortland. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Matthew (Melanie) Martin, Ethan (Brittney Austin) Martin and Halley (Brian) Cole, two great granddaughters, Alexis Cole and Fallon George and two nieces, Paula Ann Smigrocky and Norma Jean (Lloyd) Brink. Marlen was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Davis and Helen Davis Kilpatrick and by a granddaughter, Jennifer Martin. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 12:30 1pm at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1pm at the funeral home.
