Miriam Mccorkle

Miriam McCorkle passed away April 20, 2018. She was born on July 17, 1917 (her mother was taken to the hospital in a horse and buggy to give birth). She was born in Massilon, OH, and the family moved to Warren, OH in 1928. She graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1935, and went on to Flora Stone Mather College (now Case Western Reserve University), where she graduated in 1939 at the top of her class. After graduation, she returned to Warren and accepted a teaching position at West Junior High School, where she taught Home Economics, and went on to earn her Masters Degree. In 1943, she married Joseph Roland McCorkle, Jr. They had four children: Kathleen (Sommar, deceased), Molly (Halasz), Joseph III, and Robert. After her husbands death in 1969, she went back to work as an English teacher until her retirement in 1982. In 2002, she and Robert moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition to her children, Molly, Joseph III and Robert, she is survived by seven granchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 23, 2018 at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Ohio. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm till 7:00pm Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the funeral home, with a prayer service to be held at 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church School Scholarship Fund, 3601 North Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach SC 29577.
