Mitchell Richard Garrett

February 17, 1944 — February 21, 2016

Brookfield Mitchell Garrett, 72, passed away surrounded by his family, Sunday evening February 21, 2016 at his home. Mitchell was born on February 17, 1944 in Sharon, PA a son of the late Asa Richard Garrett and Edith (Shonce) Garrett Smith. He was a 1962 graduate of Joseph Badger High School. After high school, he joined the United States Marines on March 5, 1963 until his Honorable Discharge on March 3, 1967. While serving his country, his specialty was an Electric Tech and he earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Rifle Marksman Qualification Badge. During his civilian life, he graduated from Kent State University with an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He found employment at Ajax Magnethermic Corporation for 20 plus years; and Winner Steel in Sharon until he retired in 2014. After retirement he worked part time at O'Reillys as Parts Delivery. He was a member of Hartford Community Church; New Jerusalem Lodge #19 F&AM, Hartford, OH, and 32nd Degree Mason Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rite. In his spare time he enjoyed to go hunting and fishing. He was also a big family man and enjoyed spending time with his family. Mitchell will be deeply missed by his children, Krista (John) Hollobaugh and Mitchell (Amy) Garrett; two step-children, Jim (Tricia) Cratsley and Todd (Darcey) Cratsley; six grandchildren, Johannah Hollobaugh, Kyle Hollobaugh Sr., Zachary Hollobaugh, Morgan Cratsley, Hanna Cratsley, and Cade Cratsley; and one great-grandson, Kyle Hollobaugh Jr. He will also be missed by his brother Butch (Carol) Garrett; and his sisters, Isabel Haun and Debbie (Rick) Vrankovich. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Garrett, whom he married in May of 1964 and passed away on Deceber 1, 1994; his second wife, Mary Lou Garrett, whom he married on December of 1997 and passed away February 8, 2016; his step-father Phil Smith, and his brother David Garrett. Family will receive friends from 5-7:00PM on Friday February 26, 2016 at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Madasz Chapel located at 6923 Warren- Sharon Road in Brookfield and from 11:00 till the time of services on Saturday February 27, 2016 at the funeral home. The New Jerusalem Lodge will conduct a service at the end of calling hours on Friday evening. Funeral services will be at 12:00PM on Saturday February 27, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Meikle as officiate, followed by full military honors. Interment will take place at Hartford Center Cemetery in Hartford, OH where he will be laid to rest next to his wives.
