Nellie E Smith

December 18, 1913 — January 24, 2011

Nellie E. Smith, 97, of Warren, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, 5:45 PM Monday Jan. 24, 2011 at Autumn Hills Care Center. She was born Dec. 18, 1913 in Hastings, PA the daughter of Thomas and Ethel Newcomb. An area resident for most of her life, Nellie was a member of the River of Life Ministries in Boardman where she served as organist for many years. She had a "green thumb" and enjoyed flower gardening and tending to her house plants. A loving and devoted homemaker, she made beautiful embroidered items and was an excellent cook. She was featured numerous times on the "Margie Mariner Cooking Show" on Chanel 27 in Youngstown. Her greatest joy though came from spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Robert H. Smith March 3, 2000. She also was preceded in death by a daughter Jane E. Smith, and six brothers and sisters ;Guy, Violet, Emma, Grace, William, and Ruth. Nellie will be deeply missed by her daughter Annabelle Griffin and husband Arthur of Howland, 4 grandchildren; Jane E. Cunningham and husband Kevin, of Ft. Wayne, IN, Robert L. Griffin and wife Cindy of Vienna, William A. Griffin and wife Kim of Howland, and Heidi VanDevender and husband David of Warren, 5 great grandchildren; Amanda Cunningham, Connor Griffin, Ross Griffin, Matthew VanDevender, Haley VanDevender, and 1 great great granddaughter Mackenzie Wilhelm. Private services will be Thursday Jan. 27, 2011 at Roberts-Clark Chapel. Pastor Howard L. Seidel will officiate. Interment will be in Tod Homestead Cemetery. The family suggests material contributions be made to River of Life Ministries 65 Palestine Ave. Youngstown, OH 44512.
