May 23, 1947 — January 3, 2012

Nelson Jay Shelton, 64, of Vienna passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Hospice House with his two brothers, Randy and Kevin at his side. Nelson was born May 23, 1947 in Morgantown, W.Va., the son of Edward and Virginia Shelton. He graduated from Lakeview High School in Cortland, Ohio in the class of 1965. Nelson was a retired truck driver for John Rebhan and Gary Bauer. At the young age of 18 he proudly served in the U.S. Army with a one year tour in Vietnam. Nelson was a member of the VFW, Amvets and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a humble man and had a heart made of gold. Nelson walked through life with the same quiet confidence as his Dad. He never asked for anything and would not hesitate to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. His strong work ethic started at the early age of 10, delivering newspapers and continued throughout his adult life. He loved dancing, NASCAR racing and vintage cars. Nelson is survived by his Mom, Virginia Shelton of Howland, brother and sister-in-law, Randy & Carol Shelton of Fowler, brother and sister-in-law, Kevin & Colleen Shelton of Howland with whom he made his home the last weeks of his life and sister and brother-in-law, Debbie & Patrick Dobozy of Howland; nephews, Ryan (Nicole) Allison, Shawn (Kerry) Shelton and Jason & Justin Shelton; nieces, Jaime (Matt) Wagner and Shannon Shelton; Great-nephews, George Nelson Wagner, his newest name sake, Owen, Arran, Jack, Noah, Luke and Ethan; Great-nieces, Emily and Grace. Nelson will be also greatly missed by his former wife and dear friend, Evelyn Shelton along with her daughters, Renee and Michelle and family. He looked so forward to their visits and good times. Nelson was preceded in death by his wonderful Dad, Edward Shelton. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Joseph Hospital's Ultrasound & Specials Department for their kind and compassionate care for Nelson. A very special thank you to Dr. Paul Gould for his friendship and care of Nelson. Also, a very special and heart-felt thank you to Hospice Home Care and the Hospice House in Poland, their kind, caring and professional manner meant the world to Nelson and his family, not only in a professional way but also for their sincere friendships. Friends and family will be welcomed on Friday, January 6 at North Mar Church in Warren, Ohio from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. followed by a funeral service at 1:00P.M. Burial will be at Howland Township Cemetery near his Dad. Contributions may be made in memory of Nelson to the Hospice House at 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel.
