Nicholas L. Evanchan, Sr.

January 15, 1928 — December 20, 2008

Nicholas L. Evanchan, Sr., of 500 Clarksville Rd., Hermitage, Pennsylvania, formerly of Brookfield, Ohio, died at 9:05 AM Saturday (12-20-2008) in Nugent's Convalescent Center, following an extended illness. He was 80. Mr. Evanchan was born in Etna, Pennsylvania on January 15, 1928, a son of George and Mary (Pollock) Evanchan. A 1945 graduate from Farrell High School, Nick went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army as a SGT. He worked for Kroger Grocery Store, Loblaws, and retired from Giant Eagle where he had worked as a meat cutter and manager of the meat dept. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Vienna, Ohio; Brookfield Optimist Club; and the Brookfield Conservation Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golfing. Through all of his adversities, he would always give you a smile. Survivors include: his children, Janet E. Celenzi & her husband Louis, Hermitage, PA, Atty. Nicholas L. Evanchan & his wife Gail, Canton, OH, and Nancy Beard, Euless, TX; his sisters, Dorothy Fill, Hermitage, PA, and Mary Lou Hornyak, Sharpsville, PA; his grandchildren, Kristen, Jennifer, Michael and his great-grandchildren, Abigail, Michael Nicholas, and Carter Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Veronica (Magula) Evanchan (8-7-2006); by his infant son, Edward Joseph Evanchan; and by his brothers, Albert Evanchan and John Marovich. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM Tuesday (12-23-2008) at the Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, Brookfield, with Rev. Frank Zanni, Pastor. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10-12 PM. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, Ohio. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests contributions can be made to the church (or) the Sharon Regional Cancer Care Angel Fund, 2320 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
