Norman Earl Niswonger

Norman E. Niswonger, aged 83, of Liberty Township, Ohio passed away to his rest on Thursday March 22, 2012 at Hospice House in Poland Twp. He was born on May 20, 1928 in Girard, Ohio, a son of the late Earl H. Niswonger and the late Ruby Williams, and graduated from Vienna high school. He lived on Lucretia Drive in Liberty Township for 57 years. Norman was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a warehouse foreman with the 8th army, company B, in Kobe, Japan. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Patricia Truhan, whom he married on June 26, 1946, at St. Vincent De Paul church in Vienna, Ohio. He was a former member of Christ the King Lutheran church in Youngstown. He worked as an electrician's helper and maintenance department foreman at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, retiring after 30 years. He taught math and electronics classes and later was a courier for Avanti Company in Youngstown, Ohio. Norm liked to tinker with cars, was on a bowling team, and enjoyed golfing. He was an avid reader, and loved to work outdoors at home. He always had a cat or dog by his side. He was known to be a steadfast worker, loyal and true to his word, and he believed that a job worth doing was worth doing well. Norman is survived by three daughters, Susie (Tom) Lareau of Tiffin, Ohio; Judy (Frank) Cvetkovic of Youngstown, Ohio; and Barb Cullen of Carey, N.C. Other survivors include a brother, Roland (Mitzi) Niswonger, and three sisters, Gayle (Robert) Rheinscheld), Karen (Robert) Prentice, and Vera Dean. He also had another brother, the late Wilbur H. Niswonger, and two other sisters, the late Wilma Jessop, and the late Doris Sobnosky. He leaves 6 grandchildren, Jeannette, Matthew, Jay, Jon, James, and Kate, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. There will be a time of viewing for one hour, from 1 to 2 PM at the Lane Funeral Home, on Mahoning Avenue. There will also be a funeral service at 2:30 PM in the chapel at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. The burial will be private. The family is requesting that any tributes go to Hospice of the Valley in Poland, Ohio in lieu of flowers.
