Oakley F. Finch

Oakley F. Finch, age 84, of Gustavus Township passed away Tuesday morning, November 6, 2007, at his residence. He was born July 19, 1923 in Bristolville the son of the late Ira and Mary (Clark) Finch. Oakley served in the Army in the Pacific Theater in WWII. He worked over 25 years at Packard Electric Corp. as a machine operator retiring in October 1986. Oakley was a member of the Greene Church of the Nazarene and the Greene VFW Post. He was active with the Boy Scouts, serving as District Commissioner and committee member. He was instrumental in starting Boy Scout Pack 96, Troop 96 and Troop 57. Oakley loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and his two pet cockatiels and his dog. He is survived by his wife Mirriam E. Gouldthorpe Mistak Finch, whom he married July 19, 1986; four sons, Floyd "Tim" (LInda) of Mecca Twp., Mark (Iris Thornton) of Bristolville, Shane (Tina) of Greene and William (Kim) of Mecca; stepchildren, Robert (Sherry) Mistak of Maryville, TN; Cindy (William) Summers of Fowler Twp. and Pete (Emily) Mistak of Gustavus; ten grandchildren, Jennifer, James Jr., Paul, Jonathon, Matthew, Krista, Zachary, Caitlin, Laura and Michael; step-grandchildren, Brett, Sarah, Heather, Nathan, Matthew, Jessica and Steven and eight great grandchildren. Oakley was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice R. Opel Finch who preceded in death in 1985; two sons, James Sr. and John Finch; his parents; two brothers, Floyd and Lloyd Finch and three sisters, Emma Sly, Edna Buber and Mary Alice Darrah. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the 11:00 am service Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Greene Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Karen Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greene Township. In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at the Greene Church of the Nazarene, 8916 State Route 46, North Bloomfield, OH 44450.
