Paul David Salen, Sr., age 76 of Howland Township died Thursday evening, May 26, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. He was born August 8, 1939 in Warren, the son of the late Paul Lavern and Rosemary McCusker Salen. He had been a lifetime Trumbull county resident. Dave was a 1957 graduate of Warren G. Harding high school. He was a firefighter with the rank of lieutenant on the Warren City Fire Department, serving for 28 years and retiring in 1989. Dave was raised as a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he was baptised. He loved Corvettes, Mustangs and "Muscle cars" in general, motorcycles and jet skis. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family and loved Warren Harding and JFK high school football and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He had been an avid runner, running 13-15 miles a day and enjoyed racquetball and waterskiing. Dave enjoyed spending time at the cottages on Lake Erie at Geneva on the Lake and enjoyed pencil and chalk (pastels) drawing. He is survived by his wife, Patricia G. Pritts Salen, whom he married February 17, 2005; one daughter, Jennifer Sue (William) Myers of Howland; one son, Paul David (Eileen) Salen Jr. of Erie, Pa.; four stepchildren, Eddie (Lisa) Medved of Cortland, Christopher (Tina) Medved of Chillicothe, Amy Beth Medved of Vienna and Eric Medved of Howland; one sister, Kathleen (Ken) Tenney of Mineral Ridge; four granddaughters, Alexandra, Rachel and Brenna Salen and Tyler Nicholas and one grandson, Zachary Nicholas; seven step grandchildren and one step great grandson; one niece, Janelle Hayda and one nephew, Adam (Kim) Hammonds. His second wife, Juliana Sarah Broll Salen, whom he married May 18, 1984 preceded him in death in 2003. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from noon until the 2 p.m. service time on Saturday. Pastor Myron Daum will officiate. The family wishes to express special thanks to David's caregivers, especially Joe Skiffey; his doctors and the Howland Fire Dept.
