CANFIELD-Funeral Services will be held at 12:30PM Friday, July 7, 2006 in the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Paul S. Baringer, of Canfield, who passed away at 5:25AM Sunday, July 2, 2006 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Paul was 83. Paul was born on September 9, 1922 in Niles, Ohio and was the son of the late Leroy and Edith (Smith) Baringer. Paul attended Youngstown State College and was a self employed Certified Public Accountant for over 35 years retiring in 1986. Paul was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp having served during World War II. Paul was a Tech SGT and was a Flight Maintenance Gunner 748 and attended the AAF Airplane and Mechanics School and the AAF Factory School, Paul received the AAF Aircrew Member Badge. Paul took part in Air Combat Battles in the Balkans, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Air Offensive Europe. Paul received the Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal with three bronze clusters, the European-African-Middle Eastern with one bronze battle star and one silver star. Paul was a Prisoner of War for 15 months from February 19, 1944 to April 26, 1945. Paul was an active member of Canfield United Methodist Church and its many activities and organizations; a member of Canfield Community Club, Canfield Care Net, SCORE a local business organization for many years; and was very active in local POW Groups, where he served as past commander. Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years the former Amelia “Millie” Lapadus, whom he married on September 10, 1949; two children Dr. David Baringer M.D. of Cleveland, and Pamela (Mark) Shanley of Crescent Springs, KY; a brother Harold (Sheryl) Baringer of Canfield; and six grandchildren Stephanie, Matthew, Amanda, and Jacob Baringer, Ian Shanely, and Dana Shanely. Paul was preceded in death by a sister Letha Baringer. Family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM on Thursday, July 6, 2006 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to the church.
