Peter P. Puskar, Sr., age 91 of Warren, died Monday morning, July 14, 2014, in Warren. He was born February 22, 1923 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania the son of the late Peter Paul Puskar and Katherine Zalac Puskar Bonich. Peter graduated from Leavittsburg High School and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation ordinanceman. Peter played professional baseball, playing for the Statesville Owls under manager Jim Poole in Class D North Carolina state baseball league as well as playing for the Ft. Pierce, Fla. and the Salisbury Giants ball clubs. He worked as a bartender at the family business, the Evergreen Inn, worked as a carpenter for many years and was the owner/operator with his wife, Margaret, of Ohio Crating in Warren, retiring in 2002. Peter was a member of St. Mary's Church in Warren, the Carpenters Union Local No. 171 and the YMCA, where he swam a mile every day. He and his wife also enjoyed going to the casinos. His love for his family was unparalleled. He loved spending time with his family and attending their activities and sporting events. Peter was respected and loved by all who knew him. On November 13, 1943 at Roosevelt Naval Base chapel at Terminal Island, Calif., he married the love of his life and his wife for 70 years, Margaret H. Nadzan who preceded him in death on March 7, 2014. His stepfather, Eli Bonich and two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death. Surviving are five children, Kathryn Puskar of Seminole, Fla., Peter P. Jr. of San Jose, Calif., Judith Maloney of Warren, Thomas of Seminole, Fla. and Cheryl (Jim) Collins of Louisville, KY; seven grandchildren, Amy Maloney, Thomas (Emily) Puskar Jr., Daniel Puskar, Kelly (Derrick) Cunningham and Jacob, Zachery and Chase Collins and four great grandchildren, Colin Maloney, Lucy Puskar, Penny Puskar and Maci Cunningham. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 PM on Friday, July 18, 2014, at Lane Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Warren with Rev. Bernard Schmalzried celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, 301 High St. N.E., Warren, OH 44481.
