Phillip F Wertz

CANFIELD-There will be a memorial service held at 11AM Saturday, December 20, 2008 in the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Phillip F. Wertz, 71, who passed away at 5:56PM Saturday, December 13, 2008 in the Cleveland Clinic. Phil was born August 15, 1937 in Youngstown the son of the late Peter C. and Elizabeth (Edwards) Wertz. Phil was employed with the Teamster Local 377 and hauled for Youngstown Cartage. Phil in 1978 purchased the Mobil Service Station on the village green in Canfield which became Wertz Auto and Towing which is still in operation. Phil loved attending SWAP Meets and was an avid Stock Car Racer. Phil belonged to Tri-State Racing and the American Racing Club of America and raced at the old Canfield Speedway and numerous race tracks in Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. Phil is survived by his wife of 45 years the former Sandra J. "Sandy" Kimmel whom he married November 11, 1963 and together they shared the joy of five children Terri (Michael) Tisone of Boardman, Twins Timothy P. Wertz of Canfield and Kimberly K. Wertz of St. Lucie, Fl, Wendy R. (Richard Lillo) Wertz of Boardman, and Phillip G. Wertz of Canfield; a granddaughter Alexandra N. Tisone; a brother Joseph E. Wertz of Columbiana; and a faithful and loyal employee who he treated as a son Mark "Chico" Schewirey of Canfield. Besides his parents, Phil was preceded in death by a brother Peter C. Wertz. Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 20, 2008 from 10AM until the hour of service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the Joseph Kaluza Fund c/o Huntington Bank (any branch location).
