Ray Huston Vaughn, 84, of Howland Township, passed away Saturday morning, January 10, 2009 at 8:20AM in Shepherd of the Valley of Howland after an extended illness. Born June 4, 1924 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late William Sherman and Lottie (Goad) Vaughn and moved to the Trumbull County area in 1949. A veteran of the United States Air Corpse, Ray served his country during WWII. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in 1950. Ray was the owner and operator of Vaughn's Pharmacy in Niles and also the East Gate Pharmacy in Warren. In 1988 Ray retired from the business leaving his sons to take over in his place. He was a member of the ELKS #296, Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rite, Al Koran Shriners, and was a Freemason with the Wick Lodge #0481. Ray was a pilot, loved to fly, and owned his own plane. He would take anyone willing to go up with him for a ride. He also enjoyed playing cards and travel. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Dorothea (Shaffer) Vaughn whom he married July 14, 1949. Together they shared 59 years of marriage and three children. He is survived by his two sons Paul S.(Karen) and Dale R.(Colleen) Vaughn both of Howland Twp. and by a daughter Ellen Rae Vaughn of Brookfield, five grandchildren, Brad and Brian, Matthew, Jill and Joanne, also by a special friend Debbie Olsen of Brookfield. He was preceded in death by a sister Silvalea Lowry. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. The Rev. James Brandis will conduct a funeral Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 11AM at the funeral home where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Howland Twp.Cemetery. In lieu flowers material contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley at 1296 Tod Pl NW #202 Warren , OH 44485.
